June 2013 Newsletter

Hi Sisters,

The June newsletter is here and now available online. You can view it by following the link at the bottom of this post. Here's some excerpts from the newsletter.

Presidency Message
"Sadness, disappointment, and severe challenge are events in life, not life itself. I do not minimize how hard some of these events are. They can extend over a long period of time, but they should not be allowed to become the confining center of everything you do. The Lord inspired Lehi to declare the fundamental truth, 'Men are, that they might have joy.'  That is a conditional statement: “they might have joy.” It is not conditional for the Lord. His intent is that each of us finds joy. It will not be conditional for you as you obey the commandments, have faith in the Master, and do the things that are necessary to have joy here on earth".  - Elder Scott

“And you cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along.  The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours.”
- D&C 78:18

"Your joy in life depends upon your trust in Heavenly Father and His holy Son, your conviction that their plan of happiness truly can bring you joy. Pondering their doctrine will let you enjoy the beauties of this earth and enrich your relationships with others. It will lead you to the comforting, strengthening experiences that flow from prayer to Father in Heaven and the answers He gives in return." - Elder Scott

“Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.”-  D&C 19:23

Sisters, let us each strive to find joy and peace in our lives by pondering the scriptures and by obeying the commandments!  Heavenly Father wants us to be joyful! He wants us to have peace, but that comes when we learn more of Him and turn more often to Him.  I know that as we follow Elder Scott's counsel and study the scriptures and ponder them in prayer, that we will be given comfort and strength to pass through each experience and still be able to find joy.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
~Sister Beyeler

June Theme
“In all things, regardless of whether we make the same choices or not, we are to treat each other with dignity and respect, both of which are evidences of charity in our hearts and lives.”
Sheri Dew

Temple Thoughts
"Within the sound of my voice are individuals who have received the ordinances of the temple and for various reasons have not returned to the house of the Lord in quite some time. Please repent, prepare, and do whatever needs to be done so you can again worship in the temple and more fully remember and honor your sacred covenants.”
David A Bednar

Provident Living Message
"Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one's own person is its ultimate reward."
Patricia Sampson

May 2013 Newsletter

Hi Sisters,

The May newsletter is here and now available online. You can view it by following the link at the bottom of this post. Here's some excerpts from the newsletter.

Presidency Message
Dear Sisters,

As you may be aware by now, our Chapel Hill Relief Society theme for 2013 is “Uplift our Sisters”. Nearly every day and certainly every Sunday, I am reminded of Heavenly Father’s great love for each of you.

I feel prompted to emphasize this love that He has for you. Please read with me some reminders from the scriptures and from our Latter-day prophets and apostles of the love felt for you.

“No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you. In fact, He loves you, with an infinite love.”1

“As daughters of God we are each unique and different in our circumstances and experiences. And yet our part matters—because we matter. Our daily contributions of nurturing, teaching, and caring for others may seem mundane, diminished, difficult, and de-meaning at times, and yet as we remember that first line in the Young Women theme—“We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us”—it will make all the difference in our relationships and our responses.”2

Sisters, I know that God loves you. He is aware of your struggles, worries, and circumstances. Please know that I feel His love for you every day and am grateful for the opportunity to get to know each of you a little better so perhaps I may share His love with you too. Please remember, remember that He loves you so very much!

Love, Sister Beyeler

2 Forget Me Not; Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Ensign: Nov. 2011

May Theme
“The most treasured and sacred moments of our lives are those filled with the spirit of love. The greater the measure of our love, the greater is our joy. In the end, the development of such love is the true measure of success in life.” Joseph B. Wirthlin

Temple Thoughts
"In addition to temples, surely another holy place on earth ought to be our homes. The feelings of holiness in my home prepared me for feelings of holiness in the temple." James E. Faust

Provident Living Message
“But remember, you are interested in education, not just for mortal life but for eternal life. When you see that reality clearly with spiritual sight, you will put spiritual learning first and yet not slight the secular learning. In fact, you will work harder at your secular learning than you would without that spiritual vision.” Henry B. Eyring

April 2013 Newsletter

Hello Sisters!

The April 2013 Newsletter is now available online. You can view it by following the link at the bottom of this post.

Presidency Message
Dear Sisters,
As we pondered a Relief Society theme for 2013 prior to submitting our auxiliary goals, we kept in mind that to be a good steward you have to first be in a good place personally and as a result we settled upon “Uplifting the Sisters” as our 2013 theme.

The corresponding 2013 R.S. Goals to assist us on this journey are the following four:

* 3 RS Temple trips during 2013
* Specific weekday meetings with focus on inviting friends/less active sisters to join us
* Having 2 musical presentations in Sacrament Meeting per year by the R.S.
* Specific quarterly prayer topics to unite us

President Monson also gave a talk in the Priesthood session of last October’s conference that gives some good ideas about how we can uplift each other on a regular basis. He suggested the following strategies:

* Strengthen/share your testimony
* Tell each other we amount to something
* Believe that people can change
* See people not as they are, but as they can become
* Display courage in doing hard things/Gospel sharing

We hope that as a R.S. we can focus on “Uplifting each Other”, work to put into practice the strategies suggested by President Monson and join together around our 2013 goals. An important step in doing this is that as we pray daily we include the quarterly Relief Society Prayer Topic. The prayer topic for the 2nd quarter is...

Please pray for the kind of charity that ‘impels us to be sympathetic, compassionate, and merciful’; pray to have patience and understanding and love for each of your Sisters

(See President Monson's talk in the Nov. 2010 Ensign entitled “Charity Never Faileth” for additional understanding on this principle). -Sister Weathers

April Theme
“Charity…manifests itself when we are tolerant of others and lenient toward their actions, the kind of charity that forgives…that is patient…that impels us to be sympathetic, compassionate, and merciful, not only in times of sickness and affliction and distress but also in times of weakness or error on the part of others.” President Monson - Nov 2010 “Charity Never Faileth

 Provident Living Message
"The prophetic promises and blessings of Church welfare, of providing in the Lord's way, are some of the most magnificent and sublime the Lord has pronounced upon His children. ...Whether we are rich or poor, regardless where we live on this globe, we all need each other, for it is in sacrificing our time, talents, and resources that our spirits mature and become refined. "This work of providing in the Lord's way ... cannot be neglected or set aside. It is central to our doctrine; it is the essence of our religion" (Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Providing in the Lord's Way," Oct. 2011 general conference).

Temple Thoughts
"The temple is the house of the Lord. The basis for every temple ordinance and covenant…is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Every activity, every lesson, all we do in the Church, point to the Lord and His holy house." -Russell M. Nelson
